Lyon wants to set up an urban toll

The city of Lyon adopted in June, 2008 the Plan of Atmosphere Protection to fight against the automobile pollution, to reduce the traffic and improve the air quality. The plan recommends and foresees 23 measures, among which a ban on the most polluting vehicles, a decrease of the speed and an urban toll by 2010.

Scientists estimate that 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears live throughout the Northern Hemisphere in areas that are covered by sea ice for extensive periods. Two-thirds of the world's polar bears could disappear by 2050 as global warming continues to melt the Arctic's sea ice, according to a series of U.S. government studies.

Without efficient and rapid measures of protections, polar bears could disappear within a few decades.

Growing air pollution hurting heart health

Air pollution is a rising and pervasive threat to cardiovascular health, but most Canadians don't realize the danger, says the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. In its annual report on Canadians' health, the foundation said short-and long-term exposure to year-round air pollution is contributing to thousands of deaths across the country each year.

French ecological bonus for vehicles

The French government announced a FeeBate system with the "Ecological Bonus" applying to vehicles with low CO2 emissions. The highest bonus, 5000 Euros (roughly $7500), applies to super-low emitters, less than 60 g de CO2/km which includes electric vehicles.
